The Sisters of Charity St. John of God who have consecrated themselves to the apostolate of compassion and succor to the ailing, the neglected, the sorrowful and the oppressed, have taken a fourth vow of hospitality in addition to the evangelical counsel of obedience, poverty and chastity. The vision of the congregation is that all people will enjoy optimum health in all its aspects irrespective of caste, creed, age, sex, language, culture, or religion.

“Whenever you did this for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did it for me” (Mt. 25:40).
In a vast sea of human beings, numbering more than a billion in India, the sisters, though a small community, have a privileged role to play in the mission of the Church here. The Church in India is very dynamic, full of diversities and creativity, with long and deep traditions, and is in a context of expanding the Gospel of Jesus in a coherent and authentic way.
Our mission in India is that of giving witness to Christ’s merciful love, in an ambience composed of the two complex realities of poverty and pluralism, following the footsteps of St. John of God and Bro. Fortunatus, who dedicated their lives to the sick and the poor, and fulfilling the will of God by feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty and serving the sick and poor.
We have a vision that all people will enjoy an optimum health in all its aspects irrespective of caste, creed, age, sex or religion and our mission is to endure towards achieving this vision in the manner of St. John of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit.
